Timing and progress of recovery

Can someone advise of the timing and the stages of recovery. I have been at this for 5 months now and other than seeming to scratch less, my skin is still not what it should be. What is the detoxifying process and how long should it take?

Hi Warwick,

Thanks for the further information and for clarifying a few things for us :)

It can take time to heal, however, ideally 6 months on the eczema diet program with the skin friend AM and PM should allow good improvements to see the program is working for you. However, There can be a few different reasons for noticing slow progress, and as we are all so different and unique it can vary, however, here are a few possible reasons for you to consider.

* Reassessing how you are doing FID, are you ensuring plenty of good quality protein, fish, vegetables, alkalising juices, good quality filtered water, good quality grains. have you trialled going gluten free while doing FID or trialled removing any other foods you think could be contributing?

* Is there anything else in the environment or outside stressors that could be preventing healing? Mould in the home, working with toxic chemicals, high stress etc can all be contributing factors if you find the program is not working for you.

* I see you have mentioned skin infections in the past, ensuring the skin is not infected is always a must as this can prevent the skin from healing if it is infected (we cover this on this podcast) https://www.eczemadiet.com/podcasts/infected-eczema-(and-when-to-see-your-doctor!)

* If you have been on FID for 5 months it might be helpful to trial transitioning onto the Eczema diet program to allow for more variation. The FID program is ideally intended as a short term program to allow the skin to calm enough to begin testing foods. Staying on FID for too long can not always be beneficial as it does restrict some of the foods such as hemp seeds, orange coloured fruits and vegetables etc that we love for skin healing on the Eczema diet. Limiting these foods on FID is needed to allow strict avoidance of food chemicals, however, if you find the skin is not improving, bringing in some foods from the moderate salicylate and amine program such as moderate salicylate vegetables, bone broth (if tolerated), hemp seeds, hemp seed oil, fatty fish, orange coloured vegetables etc, this may be more beneficial for you personally.

These are just a few things to consider, but please respond to let us know if anything here could be something to consider or we can keep trouble shooting. Feel free to let us know what you have been eating typically so we can further assess this for you. :)
