Next steps?

Hi there, my 18 year old son did the FID diet about a year and a half ago, and we identified an amine sensitivity. Since then, we have been mostly avoiding or limiting high amine foods. His skin and hay fever are definitely better, but still not clear. We tested dairy and gluten on the FID diet, and there didn't seem any obvious issues. We don't have any mould issues. We are now working with a local integrative GP to see if we can make any more progress. We were using the AM and PM supplements for about a year, but my son really struggled with the flavour of the AM mix, so he no longer takes these. I guess I had hoped that after that length of time his gut might have healed and his skin would be close to clear, and he'd be able to eat normally again! Is there anything else we're missing??

Skin friend moisturisers have helped too, but the cost really adds up when he needs to use them all over, and the tubes are quite small. (We are based in NZ).

Do others with amine sensitivity just stay on a low amine diet for ages, or is there hope to be able to eat everything again one day?!

I’m sure that over time things will clear. I now do eat high amine foods, but not that much, nor very frequently, ie not as a base daily part of my diet. I moderate them, and I find in that way things don’t accumulate into a problem.

It took me a long time on FID as well, probably 2 years, and I’m still careful, but I got clear. I appreciate it must be so hard when you’re in your teens, but I hope these words are a little positive for you. Rowenna
