FID Questions

More queries! (Sorry)

Hi just following up on my previous post as my hands have flared up and I just trying to do the detective work to work out why (I still think potatoes are the most likely culprit). I have a few questions/doubts that I want to run past you:

  1. As I mentioned, I commenced my FID testing by testing Salmon on Saturday last week, I then waited three days on FID (no apparent reaction) and then spent 2 days eating potatoes. However I recall that when I did FID last year (but didnt complete it) I did sometimes eat packets of salted potato crisps between meals as a snack. My skin never totally cleared when I did FID last year (my hands did though)

  2. I recommenced FID in January _ I also now recall that I ate a plate of chips on a business trip to India in January (I was a bit desperate) and also a few packets of crisps on the flight home (as the only other thing I could eat were the pears I had brought with me!). Couldnt really tell if there was much of a reaction

  3. I then ate no potatoes for over a month. When I tested potatoes last week I spent 3 days when I ate jacket potatoes each day and then ate several large packets of crisps (just to ensure it was a true test) so a lot of potato in a short space of time, prior to that I hadnt eaten potato for some time. I finished the test on Wednesday.

  4. I started to develop a reaction on my hands on Friday and my hands and wrists have worsened considerably over the weekend - after being pretty clear a week ago, there are now red rashes and I am scratching for the first time in many weeks.

  5. I have the following questions:

a. Could it actually be the salmon that I ate on the Saturday last week that perhaps caused this reaction (instead of the potatoes)? i understand that chemical intolerance can take a week to emerge?

b. I was using a low strength steroid (Fucidin) on my feet for 2 weeks which | stopped using on the Thursday 23rd Feb (this week just gone) could it be some form of TSW that is causing the flare up on my hands? I didnt actually use the steroid on my hands just my feet.

Sorry for the mini story, I now fully understand why you need to minimise variables when doing the testing! However, as I was only a on a low strength steroid for a couple of weeks so still think that potatoes are the most likely culprit but would really appreciate your views.

Many thanks Mark

PS To add to my fun, I have just been diagnosed with Jock Itch in my groin area! So I will have to use Trimovate for 2 weeks to clear it up. It does appear though that Jock Itch is a fungal issue rather than an eczema issue? I kind of hope it is.....!!

Potatoes, love them! But if I'm handling very many of them my hands let me know. I sniff for bags that smell like dirt. What I find is most smell like fungicide, or that nasty anti-microbial soap. Those are trouble for contact dermatitis.
