How long on FID/Eczema Diet?
Hi there, I'm just wondering how long others have stuck to the FID/Eczema Diet? My 17 year old son has been on FID for about 5 months now, with some additions as we've tested them and found them to be ok (pumpkin, parsnip, snow peas, beetroot, kumara, zucchini, corn). He has amine sensitivity so we are trying to avoid foods listed on the updated 'high histamine' list. The diet still feels quite restrictive, but better than it was initially! It's tricky when he heads away with his friends and they all eat 'normal' food. I know it's fine to take a break from the diet from time to time, but it's quite challenging when there's lots of foods we've been limiting/avoiding eg dairy, wheat, sugar, tomato..., and it's highly likely there will be an amine reaction to follow while or after he's away! It's hard seeing his reactions being much more intense than they were before we started the diet. I feel like we're in a catch 22! Do I just need to reintroduce more of these foods into his diet as a regular thing, or do we stick to the eczema diet? And for how long? I'm struggling to see how he'll be able to eat everything more normally one day, or is that just unrealistic?? Love to hear your stories!

Thanks Mila. I appreciate you taking the time to message, and that's great to hear your daughter's skin is healing! We were really strict for the first probably 3 months, and didn't really see any major improvement. Perhaps because we have topical steroids in the mix too?? I had hoped that figuring out triggers would mean reduced steroid use, but we haven't really seen that so far. We still are using steroids 1-2 times a week.
