Update

Hi All

Just thought I would give an update as to where I am as I would appreciate feedback as I am not making much progress and am stuck on FID (largely my own fault as explained below).

I have spent the last year mostly on FID (about 90% of the time). Overall my eczema is c.60% better but I never figured out what my trigger foods were so was unable to progress my diet. Towards the end of the year I started to slip off the diet and was only about 80% compliant by the end of the year. I suppose it was just too hard to remain on FID for that long. As I started to stray from the diet (due mainly to having to do work travel), the skin on my hands got really bad towards the end of the year and i have recently had to revert to using topical steroid creams and protopic to calm things down (not sustainable in my view).

At the moment my diet consists of the following (example of a typical day):

  1. I take Skin AM/PM every day

  2. Breakfast is organic rice cereal with rice milk plus celery juice every other day

  3. Lunch is roast sprouts and white/brown rice sometimes with fried red cabbage

  4. Dinner is either:

  5. lamb/beef/chicken stir fried rice with spring onions and garlic; or

  6. lamb/chicken/beef/white fish with roast leeks

  7. To drink, I have either filtered water or rice milk, with occasionally some decaf coffee.

  8. I was unfortunately eating a lot of sugar every day having a large bag of marshmallows or a dairy-free toffee bar. I have managed to (mostly) stop this since the turn of the year though.

  9. When I am out and about and need to eat I will have chicken mcnuggets and fries from MacDonalds - this happens 1-2 times a week.

My aim for this year is really to get a sense of what my trigger foods are and really reduce the use of creams. How long should I stop using creams for before I start testing?

Karen/Bonnie/Anyone any tips as to what I could be adding to my diet to improve things? Please do be brutally honest with the deficiencies in my diet above- I really would like guidance as to what other foods I could introduce. When testing last year I seemed to have reactions to beans and potatoes.

Many thanks ! Mark

Also, make sure you’re exercising. My mental and physical health is never better than when I consistently exercise. As far as I’m can tell, exercise is the best medicine!
