Foods from the "Itchy Dozen" List

Hello again :) I've been doing the FID program and have done the amine testing week and the salicylate testing week already. I did not really react on anything, except maybe for cocoa (though I am not a 100% sure with that either).

Especially foods high in salicylates like berries, apples (unpeeled even), but also spices and honey (and a lot of other vegetables and fruits) are no problem for me, so I was wondering if I can then start to test even the foods (or at least the fruits and vegetables) you put on the "Itchy Dozen Blacklist". I'm especially missing tomatoes and citrus fruits, they're one of my favorite foods. But also broccoli and avocado. I don't mind continuing to avoid dairy, processed meat or chocolate, but the fruits and vegetables I'm missing a lot.

And I have another question concerning nuts and seeds: they are not listed on the "Itchy Dozen" list, just mentioned high in salicylates. Yet, there are some nuts like peanuts or seeds like sesame, which are common for allergic reactions. I do not have a nut allergy (I am talking about a severe one), but nevertheless I wondered whether I should only incorporate them bit by bit again in order to test possible reactions to my skin or if this does not make a difference.

Thank you in advance for answering :)

Hi Lara, yes test anything you like but note that some foods such as tomato and avocado contain a few different compounds but if you are OK with salicylates then test amines, which could include avocado and fermented foods (plain fermented cabbage with no other flavourings). Tomato contains glutamates so you can test it when you test glutamates after testing amines.

Yes I agree peanuts could have been on the itchy dozen list as it's such a problematic food due to the aflatoxins and long storage time which promotes mould.
