Amine levels
Hi there, I would love some clarity on amines please. My highschool-aged son is on the FID diet and we have learned that amines are definitely a trigger for him. Because he can't eat leftover meats, we have been sending him to school with soup in a flask (vegetable/potato and leek/lentil and vegetable). My question is, does storing soup in a flask increase amine levels?? I make the soup (no meat), cool it, freeze it in serving sized portions and then just heat it up in the morning before school. By using a flask, am I unwittingly giving him higher amine levels?

Hi Alison!
Thank you for reaching out with your question about amines.
Storing soup in a flask should not significantly increase amine levels, especially since you're taking careful steps to prepare and store the soup properly.
Amines typically form in protein-rich foods, and since your soups are vegetable-based without meat, the risk of amine increase is lower. However, it’s always good to monitor for any reactions and adjust if needed.
