Protopic Withdrawal

HI All. I have had a bit of a set back. I was getting back into doing FID 100% following going off the diet a bit towards the end of last year. I felt like I really had things on the right track in August (following 7 months on FID). I then went off the diet a bit whilst on holiday and then regularly cheated on the diet towards Christmas. No surprise that my eczema got worse again. I started the new year resolved to start FID afresh. However given my hands were not in the best shape I used topical steroid for a couple of weeks followed by some protopic. I then used the protopic quite regularly as I was advised that it was safe to do so. Sadly this turned out not to be the case as I stopped using the protopic and I promptly developed the symptoms of TSW on my hands - burning, significant reddening of the skin, significant flaking etc. I know the symptoms as I went through TSW back in 2015. My hands are in a pretty bad way now :( Fortunately I didnt really use Protopic on my ankles and they have not been affected by these symptoms. I wonder if anyone else has experience of Protopic withdrawal? I did some research on it and it looks like various people have given accounts of similar things happening. Hopefully I can be a lesson to others that stopping Protopic can lead to TSW-like symptoms. As I didnt think TSW would be an issue I dont think I used Protopic safely - I perhaps used a bit too much and stopped using it too abruptly.

Any advice welcome! Needless to say I am back on FID 100% and I dont think I will be doing much testing anytime soon whilst my skin calms down!! Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark, good idea to wean your skin off any drug slowly. You’ve got this.

Wonder Zinc could speed up the process as the zinc and vitamin B5 heals wounds and B5 has a steroid sparing effect.
