FID Foods, Supplements, and Environmental Issues
Hello! I have a handful of questions about the FID diet for my 3 year old. I know it's a lot, so thank you so much for anyone's input!
We have been doing the FID diet for a little over 3 weeks. While it has seemed to help calm his skin down a bit, he is still not very good. We have had to cut out a lot of the FID ingredients from the diet, so he is eating a very limited diet. (No potatoes, gluten, legumes. He seemed to react to cabbage and Brussel sprouts, and maybe celery and chicken) I guess I am wondering if this is normal to be so reactive to even the FID diet foods. I could see doing the FID diet for an extended amount of time, but what we are doing is super limited. Also, is it reasonable to think that chicken is a problem? (Even white meat without skin) I'm still trying to see if taking out the chicken was beneficial or not.
Also, I'd love some input on supplements/vitamins. He is taking the AM and PM vitamins. I have also been working with a nutritionist, and she seems to think that the only way to heal his skin is to also do other supplements. However, he is reacting to many of the things she is giving us. From what I have read, it seems like the salicylates in the supplements may be an issue. Can you let me know what you think of taking NAC to support the liver and a fulvic-humic complex? I think the minerals seem fine, and maybe the NAC. But we have tried other herbs and probiotics with clear reactions. Can you please help me understand how his gut microbiome gets better without taking a probiotic? I am still confused about that, so I am just so torn about what to do with taking supplements. Also, this past week I tried a couple new supplements, so I think that really flared his skin and put us back a bit with his diet. I just keep being told how important the supplements are, so it's hard to not try them.
Also, what are your thoughts about environmental factors? We just did some bloodwork, and it did show that he is very allergic to dog dander. (We have a dog.) Do you think it would be beneficial to get rid of our dog? Can he still heal even if we keep our dog? Or is it possible that if he does well with his diet that then he could become less reactive to the dog dander and still be around our dog? Another thing that our nutritionist is leaning towards is getting our house tested for mold. Do you find this to be a big issue with healing eczema, and what do you recommend when it comes to looking into mold issues?
Thanks so much for any input and advice!

Thanks so much for all your answers and encouragement. This has definitely been a tough journey with him reacting to everything we try and running on such little sleep. We'll continue with the fid diet and let him heal. It does seem like his body just doesn't want the supplements right now. I was looking at trying naet (a type of acupuncture) with him to help reduce how sensitive/allergic he is to things. Have you heard of this/have you seen it help kids with eczema before? It seems promising, but I also want to let his body rest and recover on is own if that's better. I thought I'd see if you had any experience with it or not. Again, thanks so much! Having your support means a lot right now!
