Potato question

Hi! I live in the United States and I'm confused about which potatoes are ok because I think we either name them differently or have different varieties... I know they are supposed to be "white" but does anyone know if a Russet potato is considered white? And are red potatoes considered white? (I apologize if this question has been addressed--I did a search but didn't find anything). Thank you so much for your help. :)

Hi Julie!

Thanks for your questions. I totally get your confusion! We get so many questions in regards to potatoes which is why we recorded a podcast episode on them which you can listen to here.

To answer your question, yes russet potatoes are ok on FID. Other American white potatoes varieties allowed on FID are:

  • brushed potato (another name for russet)

  • Coliban potato

  • Kennebec potato

  • Sebago potato

I hope this clears up any confusion! Please do let me know if you have further questions.

Kind regards

Bonnie
