RAW vs Cooked RED CABBAGE

Hi Again,

I remember reading somewhere in the past few years or so that the red cabbage needed to be cooked rather than eating raw. I dont remember where i read that, if it was the EczemaDietBook, shopping guide or elsewhere. Our son loves it both ways, but told our son to not eat it raw until we know for sure and encouraged him to use the food finder tool himself so that mom and dad arent always on him, he needs to use these tools himself, ugh the joys of parenting. 😄

Hi Jerry, great question. Red cabbage is not recommended to be consumed raw if you have thyroid issues as in large quantities it can result in hypothyroidism. Cabbage and other cruciferous veggies generate a substance that competes with the uptake of iodine by the thyroid. However, if you or Joseph have no thyroid concerns then eating it raw is safe.

hahah if only Food Finder was more exciting to teenage boys! I look forward to learning more about these joys one day!
