Hi Hayley! Good question. The detox reaction (if it occurs) can be caused by your gut microbiome. The Eczema Diet and FID can cause a die-off of bad bacteria in the gut and this change over from bad bacteria (dieing off) to more good bacteria can be unpleasant (many people also do not get any detox effects possibly because their habitual diet was healthy).
You can have a teaspoon of psyllium husk powder each day to feed your good bacteria as it is lowish in salicylates. Garlic, ginger, red cabbage and leeks will also help, plus 2 litres of water daily. Detox phase, if it does occur, will be over within 2 weeks usually.
I would avoid clays, charcoal and other binders as they leech important minerals from your body such as calcium and zinc. I also found they made my eczema worse (when I had eczema). Karen x
