Vitamin D drops

Has anyone been able to find a brand of infant vitamin D drops that do not contain coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil? I'm located in the U.S. I know there's probably a tiny amount in a single drop, but I'm wondering if I need to completely avoid these oils on the FID until we test my child for salicylate sensitivity.

Hi Stephanie, Happy to help. It's hard to find pure sources of vitamin D. Has your child got a dr diagnosed vitamin D deficiency or is it winter over there? If not, then do FID for 2 weeks and then test vitamin D if you want to.

But if your child does have a diagnosed vitamin D deficiency, then address this first... A single drop might be okay, something you will need to test to see how your child reacts. But vitamin D, when there is no deficiency probably won't make much of a difference. On saying that, the best way to find out is to try it and see. Testing during FID is allowed and encouraged. Just only test one new thing within a 3 day period.

In summary... if there IS a diagnosed deficiency (or a likely risk of deficiency due to long periods indoors over winter) then give your child a drop of vitamin D daily as prescribed. But if your child is not vitamin D deficient (but you read vitamin D was good for eczema), then begin by doing FID for two weeks then test vitamin D so you can get clear answers (so you can see if the product is helpful or not, as some supplements can trigger more itch and more eczema so you might want to avoid that.).
