Testing foods in Toddler

Hi there - not sure if any of these forums are active any more?

My 16 months has winter onset eczema and I have been following a strict Failsafe protocol for her and I for 2 1/2 weeks.

Her skin has settled in some areas (face - which I think was reacting to contact with fruits and foods) but initial patches on legs (seem to be discoid eczema - dry- never weeping- slightly raised - rarely itch) are still present and fluctuate in redness throughout the day.

I challenged egg white 4 days ago and possibly saw increased redness inflammation that day - but no dramatic to consider it a full positive.

Would you recommend rechallenging egg white (I'd like to get this protein/fat source back in her)?

Also, the shopping list says blueberries up to 10 are fine, but I thought they were quite high in salicylates.

Thank you!

Hi Lani!

They sure are! Thanks so much for your question.

In terms of the egg white challenge, if you noticed a possible increase in redness after introducing it, I'd give her skin some time to settle again before testing it another time. Once she's back to her usual baseline, you can test it again and see how she goes. For a toddler, I recommend reducing the blueberries to around 5 per day, but initially start with 2 and slowly work your way up.

You're doing a great job — food testing can take a bit of trial and error, especially with little ones! Please let me know if you have any further questions. Bonnie
