Using Food Finder and how to read results.

Hi my name is Jerry and I'm trying to learn how to use the food finder search tool. My first entry was organic heritage bred pork chops. Turned up no results, however I entered pork chops and got a result and thought " ok, cool but it says low salicylate, low amines and chemicals" so my first thought is "great! Low salicylates and low amines but then read that fat from pork causes inflammation" so I guess no go with the pork. Now I truly do believe our source (Porter Road) meats uses no chemicals as they are bred humanely and are heritage bred. So, with that said I still need to rule out pork right now. We will begin our journey Tomorrow morning..I'm hoping to use the recipes daily and get my son involved in this frustrating journey. We've been down thos road before and got him healed but he fell off the wagon. Thanks

Hi Jerry, happy to help re the fatty part of pork... personally I found eating pork fat made my eczema worse as the high content of saturated fat (which is rich in arachidonic acid which the body can use to make inflammation) puts the other fats (such as omega-3) out of balance.

Fat in meats is okay to eat, but too much, like the thick fat layer in pork, is a problem for eczema as fats should be consumed in balance: Omega-3 (from hemp seed oil, flaxseed oil and fresh fish), suppresses saturated/arachidonic acid when it convents to leukotrienes (which can trigger eczema/inflammation) but omega-3 in the diet cannot suppress high amounts of arachidonic acid when eating very fatty meats. That is why the pork fat should be cut off when your son has it.

I see you mentioned pork is low amine but pork is high in amines/histamines, so pork is not suitable for people with histamine intolerance.

Check with your butcher regarding preservatives as they might have preservative free options if your son wants to occasionally eat pork chops. You can find more info in food finder.
